Somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic

Crossing from Brazil has, so far, been eventful to say the least.
The day we entered the ocean and left the Amazon the waves were huge!
Kelli (my roommate) and I both got so sea sick because our cabin is at
the very front of the boat which rocks the most. Kelli had it way worse
so she went down to the Doctors to get nausea medicine but apparently
there was a Brazilian flu going around so the Doctor had to be cautious
so he decided to put her in quarantine for 24 hours. Since I had done
the over night trip with some of the people who actually had the flu and
I was sea sick too, he put me in quarantine too. So for twenty four
hours we were trapped in our room and not allowed to leave. At first it
sounded like a nice break to catch up on sleep but after a three hour
nap I wanted out. Not to mention that our little cabin was rocking like
crazy so we were just getting more and more sea sick. We tried to escape
and go to dinner because all they brought us was toast and applesauce.
Dr. Bill was ready for escapees though because he found us in the dining
room and sent us back. Honestly, it was the longest twenty four hours
ever stuck in our 8x8 ft cabin. When we were finally allowed to leave we
went straight upstairs and ordered cheeseburgers and celebrated out
freedom.
Lesson: Never, ever go to go to Dr. Bill. Suck it up.
On a brighter note, yesterday was Neptune Day! Neptune Day is a big
celebration on the boat for when we cross the equator and become
'shellbacks'. The crew woke us all up early by marching down the halls
dressed as Roman warriors banging on pots and pans. We were all rallied
up onto seventh deck where each one of the 600 students had to be
covered in slime, jump into the pool, kiss a fish, and then kiss
Neptune's ring. The tradition also includes everyone shaving their head.
So now I am bald.....jk. I opted out of that but probably 6 or 7 girls
actually had their heads buzzed. All around the ship are bald people and
about a million mohawks. It's pretty funny. The best part of Neptune
Day, however, is that it was also TACO DAY! After pasta, potatoes, and
pork for a solid week tacos are seriously like a delicacy. All around
great day.
Only four days until Ghana, I can't wait!!!!!!

  3. Being confined to your room for 24 hours must have been awful for you and then to be sick on top of it...not fun. I am so glad you are almost across the ocean!
