Boat Life

So far, this has been all that I expected it to be and more. I am having
an amazing time already and we haven't even stopped in port yet. When I
saw my room for the first time, I was a bit skeptical as to how much I
would really enjoy life on the boat. I'm pretty sure my room was like
the cleaning supplies closet or something when it was an actual cruise
ship. Luckily, I have one roommate and we get along really really well
so having such a small place isn't so miserable. The reality of it is
that we hardly spend any time in here anyway, the rest of the boat is
amazing. We were all sitting out on the deck in lounge chairs doing
homework today while getting tan, it was so good.
We began classes today and I know it sounds nerdy, but I am actually
really excited for them. My two psych classes are taught by the same
professor and she is really passionate about what she is teaching which
actually makes it interesting in class. Tomorrow I only have one class
from 8-9:15 and then work at the library from 12-2 and then back to the
sun deck I go.
There have been a few kinks to work out since starting the voyage, for
the first few days no one had internet or even e-mail. And then someone
flushed a 'foreign object' and blocked all the toilets on deck three so
no one had bathrooms. Luckily, everything is up and running now. Now all
people have to worry about is being sea sick. There are so many people
just like sleeping in the hallways hating life because this boat rocks
SO much. It's hard to even walk or stand, when a big wave comes everyone
goes flying which is funny but kind of scary. According to the captain,
these aren't even rough seas. Let me tell you, taking a shower while
being thrown around by the waves is not a pleasant or easy task. I feel
like I narrowly escaped some serious head trauma ;)
We arrive in Dominica on Monday. I have a full schedule....On Monday a
groups of us are going to wake up early and explore Rosseau and then I
am going kayaking in the biggest river which connects fresh water to
salt water. Along the way we get to see native Caribbean villages and
swim. Then that night we are going to go and check out some of the night
life. On Tuesday morning I am going on a hike with two friends to a
waterfall and then at 2 we are meeting up with a few people and going
snorkeling at the Champagne reefs. I can't wait, I think it is going to
be a great way to kick of the voyage.
I will update again once we are departing Dominica and on our way to
Brazil!
